ABOUT A TRUE PARADISE
my name is Dirk Wilutzky, I am a filmmaker and film producer in Berlin. Together with my wife Mathilde Bonnefoy we produced the film CITIZENFOUR about the historic revelations of mass surveillance by Edward Snowden in 2014. Mathilde also edited the film. Both of us, as well as the director of the film, were awarded an Academy Award (Oscar) for this work.
About 10 years ago Mathilde and I filmed and produced, in coproduction with the German-French TV channel ARTE, a series of short documentaries entitled: WHAT IS TO BE DONE? For a just and sustainable future of humanity. It consisted of 30 inspiring 10 to 14-minute short films, each with a single protagonist whom we a llowed to have a direct and uncensored voice. We spoke with: Gro Brundtland, Dennis Meadows, Ernst Ulrich von Weizsäcker, Maude Barlow, Naomi Oreskes, Rob Hopkins, Jakob von Uexküll, Stéphane Hessel, Scilla Elworthy, David Suzuki, Dirk Messner, Achim Steiner and many more.
Now, Mathilde and I are once again filming a series of short films on the same subject, this time as part of a UN-UNIVERSITY endeavour called:
The Transformative Urban Coalitions project (TUC)
It was initiated by Ani Dasgupta (WRI) and Dirk Messner (BUNDESUMWELTAMT) and strives to achieve socially inclusive, fast and radical CO2-emissions reductions in five selected pilot cities in Argentina, Mexico and Brazil, through cooperation between social, scientific and political actors in dedicated ‘Urban Labs’.
Our specific role is to tell the truth about the urgency of the situation and to convince everybody to engage in this extremely important fight for better urban futures and real global sustainability and zero-carbon emissions.
The title of this new short film series is
A TRUE PARADISE
The idea behind this title is that if we would now do the necessary to avoid the climate catastrophe for billionhs of people, then we will do exactly what is necessary to create a true paradise: solidarity, just and meaningful.
But we have to do it now. Now!
