Ernst Ulrich von Weizsäcker is a physicist, biologist and the author of a series of ground-breaking books on sustainability and efficiency.

In 1991 he was the founding director of the Wuppertal Institute, one of the most significant German institutes for climate research and environmental protection.

In 2006 he was the first dean of the Bren School of Environmental Science and Management at the University of California, Santa Barbara.

He is a member of the Club of Rome and co-chairs the International Resource Panel at the United Nations Environment Programme.
