Vandana Shiva is a physicist, the author of more than 20 books, and a globally renowned environmental activist striving for global justice.
Her theory of Earth Democracy combines ecological responsibility and economic justice with the goal of genuine, global sustainability.
In 1987 she founded Navdanya, part farm, part seed bank and part research centre, where Indian farmers, international scientists and people from around the world teach and learn about traditional organic farming.
In 2005 she won a landmark ruling against the patenting of living organisms at the International Court of Justice in The Hague.
