Kumi Naidoo is a South African environmental and human rights activist and since November 2009 has been Director of Greenpeace International.
He is the first African leader of this organization.
In his youth he fought against apartheid in South Africa, which led to his arrest in 1986 and which forced him into exile in 1989. Subsequently he was involved in the global fight on poverty and with several international organizations such as Civicus, Global Campaign for Climate Action (GCCA), Clinton Global Initiative, Amnesty International, World Economic Forum and UNIFEM.
In 2005 he was one of the founders of Global Call to Action Against Poverty.
