Rob Hopkins is a lecturer in permaculture, a writer on environmental issues and the founder of the TRANSITION TOWNS movement.
Transition towns are communities, towns, villages or city neighbourhoods that are beginning to free themselves from dependence on fossil fuels and global flows of goods.
His aim is to produce energy, goods and food locally and sustainably and thus to create employment and better quality of life.
Since starting in Totnes in England in 2006, there are now more than 40 TRANSITION INITIATIVES worldwide which together comprise the TRANSITION NETWORK.
