Herman Daly is an American economist and emeritus professor at the School of Public Policy, University of Maryland, USA.
He was one of the first and best known advocates of ecological economics.
In 1988 he became senior economist in the environment department of the World Bank, but resigned in protest in 1994.
He advocates a steady state economy through politics that lead to a steady population level, to a steady standard of living, and to fairer distribution of wealth.
His work has inspired a new generation of economists worldwide who are further developing the alternatives to the predominant growth-based economic theory.
