Irina Bokova is a former minister of foreign affairs in Bulgaria and since 2009 has been the elected Director General of UNESCO. She is the first woman to head a UN organization.
Her vision of global sustainability and resilience is based on her idea of a “new humanism”, through which the nations of the world could become one single community based on humanist principles.
Her aim is to use training and education to raise a communal awareness in mankind of problematic and pressing situations, in order to find mutually respectful joint solutions that all cultures and nations can agree to.
