Maude Barlow is a Canadian author and activist who is internationally known for her work for the global right to water. Amongst other things, she is the national chairperson of the Council of Canadians, the country’s most influential citizens’ rights organization.

As senior advisor on water to the UN between 2008 and 2010 she worked towards the formal recognition of the human right to water and sanitation. This was officially adopted in 2010.

Since then she has been working vehemently to make this human right a reality.
